The final wind turbine has been installed at Iberdrola SA’s (BME:IBE) first wind-solar hybrid project, the 317-MW Port Augusta complex in South Australia, the Spanish utility said today.

The AUD-500-million (USD 362m/EUR 310m) Port Augusta project will pair 210 MW of wind power capacity with 107 MW of photovoltaic (PV) capacity and is expected to come online in the coming months.

The wind component consists of 50 wind turbines of 4.2 MW each, installed by Vestas Wind System A/S (CPH:VWS). The first turbine was erected in April.

The solar array will be made up of about 250,000 panels being supplied by Longi. Spanish infrastructure company Elecnor SA (BME:ENO) is responsible for constructing the plant’s substation and transmission line.

Iberdrola said it already operates 800 MW of renewables capacity in Australia, and also has 453 MW under construction and over 1,000 MW under development.
