On the national front, the electric vehicle market has seen impressive expansion. In 2024 alone, India recorded sales of 19.49 lakh EVs, a notable 27% increase compared to the previous year. This marks a significant milestone in the country’s transition towards cleaner transportation alternatives.
Electric two-wheelers played a dominant role in driving this growth, making up over 55% of total EV sales in the fiscal year 2024. Passenger electric three-wheelers followed closely, accounting for about 32% of the market share during the same period. These segments continue to attract both consumers and manufacturers due to lower operating costs and government incentives.
Government initiatives, including subsidies under the PM E-Drive and other policy support, have been critical in encouraging EV uptake. Between April and November 2024, 13.06 lakh EVs were registered—representing a 25% growth compared to the same timeframe in the previous year.
According to the e-Vahan portal, total EV registrations in India reached 45.74 lakh by July 29, 2024. This marks a 42.06% year-on-year increase in registrations, showing growing consumer confidence and expanding infrastructure for electric mobility.
