India establishes 31,696 MW solar power generation capacity: minister
New Delhi: The government said Thursday that a total of 31,696 megawatts (MW) of solar power generation capacity connected to the grid in the country was established until October 2019.
The goal of the government is to install 1.00,000 MW of solar power capacity connected to the grid by December 2022, said the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy R K Singh in a written response to Lok Sabha.
As of October 31, 2019, a total capacity of solar energy generation connected to the network of 31,696 MW in the country was established, projects of 17,998 MW capacity are in various stages of the facilities, said the minister.
Tenders for other 36,278 MW capacity projects have been issued and new tenders of around 15,000 MW have been planned in the remaining period of 2019-20 and 2020-21, and the country is on track to achieve the goal, he said.
Most of the solar energy projects in the country have been/are being established with private investment, Singh said. The union government has been implementing the National Solar Mission under which several Schemes have been launched (as detailed in Annex III) to promote the generation and use of solar energy in the country.
