In Short : India has approved the development of nearly 37.5 GW of solar parks across the country as part of its push towards renewable energy expansion. This ambitious initiative aims to boost solar power generation, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and accelerate India’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. The parks will significantly contribute to India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030.

In Detail : In a speech during the 7th General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance, he also announced that the country has identified potential offshore wind energy sites to reach its 30 GW goal by 2030.

India has set a target of 500 GW renewable energy by 2030. So far, 90 GW of solar energy alone has been installed.

Under its Union Budget for 2024-25, the Indian government increased funding for solar power projects and targeted support for initiatives like the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Exemptions on critical mineral imports were also implemented.

India is also encouraging communities to generate renewable energy on their own through the PM-KUSUM scheme. This has enabled farmers to irrigate with solar power and sell surplus energy.

The Production Linked Incentive scheme, meanwhile, strengthens India’s solar manufacturing sector through a self-reliant supply chain.

“With these initiatives, India is not just contributing to a global energy transition but is setting a benchmark for sustainable growth. I am proud to say that we are making a tangible impact on the ground,” the official said.
