India to have over half dozen electric cars launched in 2020
India will be witnessing a surge in the launch of new electric vehicles next year. Only recently the MG ZS EV and the Tata Nexon EV were launched in India that will be available in the market in the next couple of months. With their low-maintenance and great drivability together with the Government too pushing for zero-emission vehicles, it is certain that the EV market in India will have quite a few new vehicle launches.
The launch of the MG ZS EV and the Tata Nexon EV has definitely helped other automakers to release their EVs soon. These other EVs include the Audi Etron, Kia Soul, Jaquar i-Pace, Renault City K-ZE, Nissan Leaf and Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV which will be debuting shortly in the subsequent weeks. While Mahindra has planned some big products like the eKUV100 and the super-specialist Battista sportscar.
The MG ZS EV, the first EV made in India, offers a noise-free drive paired with super-fast acceleration unlike traditional fossil fuel-run vehicles, gain instant traction right from the word go. EVs have multiple advantages including being able to run up to over 300 kilometres on a single charge, super-low running costs that are as low as rupee per kilometer against 5-7 per kilometre of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles or even to the Rs 3 per kilometre of CNG vehicles.
Commenting on the adavantages offered by electric vehicles, Rajat Gupta, the chief commercial officer at MG Motors said, “The MG ZS EV offers India’s best vehicle ownership package – It’s running cost is approx Rs 1 per km. Besides, we are offering the “eShield”, with free-of-charge 5-year manufacturer warranty for unlimited kilometers on the car, 8 yrs /150k km warranty on battery and also includes round-the-clock roadside assistance (RSA) for a period of 5 years, for private registered cars for a complete peace of mind.”
Additionally, EVs are considerably low- maintenance due to the fact that they have lesser moving parts and lighter body-weight. The automatic transmission comes as a standard for all models.
A little later, FAW Haima of China, a specialist in the realm of EV, might step into the Indian automobile industry with their cars and SUV’s that will make prices a lot more affordable in a bid to boost EV among the masses.
The Government has also been offering incentives like waiving off registration tax and other changes on EV making them affordable and neutralizing their high price cost in an attempt to encourage people to purchase EVs. India is most likely to become a major EV market in the upcoming years with the Government and automakers looking to develop alternative mobility that is eco-friendly.
