India is aspiring to produce approximately One lakh Megawatt of solar energy by 2022. Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal said this in Dubai yesterday while interacting with the members of the Indian Business and Professional Council. He is on a three day official visit to UAE to participate in the 10th Edition of World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.
Interacting with the Indian community, Mr Goyal said that in 2014, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the 100 Gigawatt target, India had 3 gigawatt of solar energy and 33.8 Gigawatt of renewable energy capacity. But in the last 18 months, India has seen a rapid increase in the capacity of renewable energy sources.
The Minister said that the government is committed to contribute to the global effort of reducing carbon pollution. He invited the Indian Business Community to set up Waste Processing Industries in various parts of the country.
Mr Goyal urged the business community settled in the UAE to give back to their motherland by contributing towards social cause and support sports.
