Indore: In a major move towards green energy, the city airport will use solar light to illuminate its premises from Independence Day. The solar pant of 1-Mega Watt capacity has been set up at the airport whose trial will start soon.  Airport director Aryma Sanyal said solar plant set up on 60-acre land behind Flying Club is almost complete.

A sum of Rs 4.30 crore has been spent on the project, which would meet one third energy requirement of airport. Presently, airport administration spends Rs 30 lakh per month to pay electricity bills. With solar energy, airport administration will save Rs 10 lakh per month.

The airport’s electricity consumption has gone up after 24X7 operation of flights has begun at the airport. Keeping in view the future requirement of electricity, a foundation stone for commissioning of 1MW solar power was laid by Airport Authority of India chairman Dr Guruprashad Mohpatra on October 25, 2017.  A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between AAI and MP Urja Vikas Nigam for setting up the plant on the same day. “This is one of our efforts to use green energy. Besides, we are using bio-bags in litter bins at the airport,” Sanyal said.

Kishore Kumar’s birth anniversary

To mark birth anniversary of playback singer Kishore Kumar on August 4, airport administration will hold a music event. Singers will present popular songs sung by Kishore Kumar on the day from 11 am to 12 noon.
