Install solar plants or face action, residents told Estate office to issue notices as two-year deadline set to expire next month
Chandigarh: The residents who failed to install rooftop solar power plants at residential houses will face notices from the Estate Office as the two-year deadline for installing solar power plants is set to expire next month.
The Chandigarh Administration, in a notification issued in May 2016, had made installation of rooftop solar power plants mandatory in residential houses measuring 500 sq yd and above and group housing societies. While the solar plants made mandatory in the new houses, the owners of the existing houses were given two years to comply with the direction.
Santosh Kumar, Director, Science and Technology Department, said the department had already asked the Estate Office to start the compliance of the notification.
He said the Estate Office would soon issue public notices making people aware of the notification. While the solar plants in majority of the government buildings and the offices had been installed, not many persons were coming forward for the installation of the same.
