New Delhi: State-owned oil marketing company Indian Oil Corporate (IOC) aims to set up 10,000 charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) in the country over the next two years.

SM Vaidya, Chairman, IOC said 2000 EV charging stations will be established in the next 12 months and another 8000 in the next two years to achieve target of 10,000 EV charging stations in the next three years.

A comprehensive EV charging infrastructure is essential to increase penetration of electric vehicles in the country. States like Karnataka and Delhi are including electric vehicles in their public transport system. With this demand for electric charging stations will increase. Many private and public enterprises are setting up EV charging stations in the country in collaboration with original equipment manufacturers.

Last week, Tata Power, one of the country’s largest private-sector integrated companies, completed setting up of more than 1000 EV charging stations across the country.
