Jerusalem : Israel’s finance and energy ministries on Tuesday announced in a joint statement an allocation of 100 million shekels (about 29 million US dollars) to fund energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in government assets.
The amount, to be distributed to government ministries, as well as subordinate authorities and offices, will lead to significant financial savings following the streamlining of energy consumption, the statement noted.
Energy efficiency projects include upgrading lighting systems, replacing old central cooling units and split air conditioners with new and efficient systems, and installing energy management systems, thermo-solar systems and heat pumps, according to the statement.
The amount will also include the installation of photovoltaic facilities and energy storage systems, it added.
Israeli Energy Minister Karine Elharrar noted that this budget will help meet the national target of reducing electricity consumption and reach a target of 30 percent renewable energy production by 2030.
