JSW Energy Wins 700 MW Solar Project from SJVN, Boosts Total Capacity to 11 GW

In Details – In a significant development in India’s renewable energy sector, JSW Energy announced on Tuesday that it has been awarded a 700 Megawatt (MW) solar energy project by SJVN, a prominent state-owned enterprise. This project was acquired through a competitive bidding process aimed at establishing 1,500 MW of solar power projects connected via the Interstate Transmission System (ISTS). The successful bid was made by JSW Energy’s subsidiary, JSW Neo Energy Ltd (JSW Neo).
This latest acquisition, following the letter of award (LoA) from SJVN Ltd, elevates JSW Energy’s total capacity to an impressive 11 Gigawatts (GW). This includes 1.4 GW from solar projects. The company is tasked with delivering the full contracted power capacity within a 24-month timeframe from the date the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) becomes effective.
JSW Energy’s portfolio now boasts a locked-in generation capacity of 11 GW, including 7.2 GW already operational, 2.6 GW under development across wind, thermal, and hydro sectors, and LoAs for an additional 1.2 GW capacity from SECI (Tranche – XVI) and SJVN. Additionally, the company has committed to 3.4 GWh of energy storage capacity, utilizing battery storage systems and hydro-pumped storage projects.
With an aim to reach 9.8 GW of operational generation capacity by CY2024, up from the current 7.2 GW, JSW Energy is on a clear path towards sustainability. The company has ambitiously pledged to cut its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and clean energy.
