Kochi: The board of directors of Kerala State Electricity Board has approved to buy 200 megawatts solar power per day and the state is set to sign a contract with the National Hydro Power Corporation.
This is beyond the existing agreement with Solar Energy Corporation worth Rs 1,676 crore. However, the agreement does not reveal the price of each unit and the contract period, official sources said on Wednesday.
NHPC is a middleman that buys power from private companies for sale. NHPC had bought 2000 megawatts of solar power from solar power producers. Kerala has decided to buy 200 Mw from this.
According to the stipulations of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, Kerala needs to use 895.96 million units of solar power in 2021-22.
