Khalsa institutes to have solar power plants
With an aim to provide clean energy to its institutes, the Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) has commissioned a new project to install solar power plants at its constituent schools and colleges.
To begin with, six sites have been identified for the installation of solar plants, namely Khalsa College of Women, Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Khalsa College of Nursing and Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology, Ranjit Avenue and Khalsa College Public School.
In an assurance that there would be no damage to the college buildings, KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said, “Around 700 MW power plants will be installed. It would help in dealing with the issue of power cuts.”
The decision was taken after a series of meetings of experts with the KCGC officials. Talking about the benefits of the project, Khalsa College Principal Dr Mehal Singh said, “Students will get benefitted with availability of uninterrupted power supply in hostels, canteens and classrooms. It will help in lowering down the price per unit from Rs 7 to Rs 4.”
