In Short : Kolkata will soon host India’s largest EV charging hub, featuring 300 chargers and ranking second globally after China. Set to open by August 2025 in Thakurpukur, the 2-acre facility by EzUrja will include fast and slow chargers. Powered partly by solar energy and a microgrid, it aims to meet 40% of its 6 MW demand sustainably.
In Detail : Kolkata is set to become home to India’s largest electric vehicle charging hub, marking a significant step in the country’s transition to green mobility. The facility will house 300 chargers, making it the second-largest EV charging station in the world, following China’s 650-charger hub.
The charging station will be located in Thakurpukur, South Kolkata, and is expected to be operational by August 2025. The site spans nearly two acres and was previously owned by PSU Andrew Yule & Co., now being redeveloped by green energy company EzUrja.
The hub will include both fast and slow EV chargers, with capacities reaching up to 120 kWh. Around 20% of the chargers will be fast chargers, catering to a variety of electric vehicle needs, from personal cars to commercial fleets.
In addition to its size, the facility is being designed with sustainability in mind. Solar panels and a microgrid will be integrated into the hub, allowing it to generate about 40% of its total 6 MW energy requirement from renewable sources.
This project supports India’s broader push to expand EV infrastructure and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It also responds to the increasing demand for accessible and reliable charging stations as EV adoption grows across the country.
By combining large-scale infrastructure with clean energy solutions, the Kolkata charging hub aims to set a benchmark for future EV projects in India and across the globe.
