Calcutta: Land may come in the way of Bengal’s meeting the renewable energy target set by the Centre.
The Union government has recently asked all states to ensure that 25 per cent of its power demand comes from renewable sources.
“We hardly produce about 3 per cent,” power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay said during the 2nd Young Thinkers’ Conference organised by British deputy high commission on Tuesday.
“At least five acres are required for every megawatt of renewable power,” said Chattopadhyay. “It is difficult to find so much land in Bengal.”
