Leroy Merlin to green Polish ops with PV power from Better Energy – EQ
In Short : Leroy Merlin plans to enhance its operations in Poland by embracing solar power from Better Energy, marking a significant step towards sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint in the region.
In Detail : French home improvement and gardening retailer Leroy Merlin has clinched a deal with Denmark’s Better Energy to procure solar power for its operations in Poland.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) will provide Leroy Merlin with 14 GWh of green electricity, the Danish renewable energy company said recently. The supply will be equal to the annual electricity demand of around 7,000 Polish homes and will cover roughly 20% of Leroy Merlin’s electricity consumption in Poland.
The PPA has a term of 10 years and is expected to enter into force in January 2025. It is the first such arrangement for Leroy Merlin in Poland, the company’s CEO in Poland, Krzysztof Kordulewski, said.
Better Energy will meet its commitment under the deal by delivering electricity from its Chelmno photovoltaic (PV) park, which is currently under construction.
Leroy Merlin is working on a programme to lower its energy consumption and add renewable power capacity. Its goal is to cut the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions across its operations and its value chain by 50% in 2035 from 2022 levels.
