French green hydrogen developer Lhyfe (EPA:LHYFE) on Monday said it has won a call for expressions of interest to develop a 210-MW project for producing green hydrogen at the Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port in western France.

The call launched at the end of last year provides land for installing the proposed infrastructure facilities in order to help the fossil fuel-reliant port decarbonise its ecosystem.

Under the plan, Lhyfe will build the green hydrogen and distribution hub in the Montoir-de-Bretagne commune of Loire-Atlantique department, at the heart of Nantes Saint-Nazaire Port’s industrial and logistics areas. The complex will be powered by 210 MW of electrolysers and will be able to produce up to 85 tonnes of hydrogen daily. The site should launch operations by 2028.

The execution of the project depends on securing operating authorisations and construction permits, as well as on taking financial investment decisions.

Lhyfe is currently installing seven green hydrogen production plants across Europe, including in France, Germany and Sweden. The company’s first renewable hydrogen site running on wind power generated by on-site turbines was opened in 2021.
