In Detail : Madhya Pradesh is set to develop an 800 MW solar park to facilitate a seasonal energy exchange with Uttar Pradesh. This initiative will allow both states to share power for six months each year, aligning with their peak electricity demand periods. Madhya Pradesh experiences higher demand from October to March during the rabi crop season, while Uttar Pradesh requires more power from April to September for the kharif season.

The solar park will consist of four units, each generating 200 MW. Power procurement will be jointly managed by Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company and Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. Officials have outlined a timeline for the project, with bid documents expected by May, a reverse auction scheduled for June, and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to be finalized in July.

This initiative is part of a broader collaboration between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh to develop 8 GW of solar capacity. The first phase of this partnership includes a 2 GW project, with Morena in Madhya Pradesh identified as a potential site. By optimizing resource utilization and energy distribution, this initiative aims to improve energy security for both states.

Madhya Pradesh currently has 9 GW of renewable energy capacity and aims to reach 20 GW by 2030. The new solar park represents a step toward achieving this goal while reinforcing the state’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio. The project also highlights Madhya Pradesh’s role as a leader in sustainable energy initiatives in India.

The collaboration aligns with India’s national renewable energy targets, contributing to the country’s clean energy expansion. By promoting inter-state cooperation and leveraging complementary demand cycles, the project sets a model for future renewable energy partnerships. It also enhances grid stability and reduces reliance on fossil fuels.

Once operational, the 800 MW solar park will provide reliable and sustainable power to both states while reducing environmental impact.
