Maharashtra’s 31 railway stations to run on solar powerq
IN an effort to promote usage of solar power at railway stations and other buildings of the railways, the Ministry of Railways has planned installation of solar panels on 471 railway stations and buildings in the country. Of these, 31 will be in Maharashtra.
The Ministry of Railways has already emphasised on a plan to install solar panels with the capacity to generate 500 mega watts at each of its railway stations and other buildings. AS a part of the project solar panels have been installed at 478 location in 21 regions of the ministry. These include 31 such locations in Maharashtra.
Solar panels have been installed at 19 railways stations of the Central Railway in Maharashtra including, Nerul, Tikekekar wadi, Sangola, Daund, Khandala, Umbermali, Matheran, Asangaon, Pen, Bhusaval, Pune, Rahuri, Puntamba, Ahmednagar, Matunga and Khopoli railway stations. Buildings of the Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus buildings at Panvel and Parel have also been covered under the project.
Meanwhile, the Southern Railway route has solar panels installed at Mumbai Central, Grant road and Churchgate railway stations. Stations like Udgir, Dharmabad, Umri, Purna and Parbhani on the South-Central rail route along with buildings at Parali railway station have also had solar panels on them.
The entire project is aimed at reduction of power consumption at railway establishments all over the country.
