Maldives govt invites bids for 20-MWp solar tender – EQ Mag
The Maldives government last week published an Invitation for Bids in relation to a tender for the construction and operation of grid-connected solar power systems in the South Asian archipelagic state with a targeted capacity of 20 MWp in total.
The project envisages the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in 20 inhabited outer islands under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Interested parties are able to register with the Maldives finance ministry as of Sunday and up until August 10, 2023. A pre-bid meeting is to be held online on June 1, while the actual bidding is scheduled to end on August 14, 2023.
According to Sheharyar Chughtai, Public-Private Partnership Specialist at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) which serves as the transaction advisor to the government of the Maldives, this is the world’s first multi-site land, rooftop and seawater floating solar IPP project.
A previous announcement mentioned that the project will be supported by a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with state-owned utility Fenaka Corporation Ltd.
