Manufacturing linked solar to set up at below ₹ 3 a unit: MNRE Secretary
NEW DELHI: Manufacturing linked solar power generation projects will be set up at below ₹ 3 a unit said Anand Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Speaking at the SKOCH 54th Summit, Kumar said, “We are evaluating the bid we got in the manufacturing linked tender for setting up solar power projects. Azure Power has put in the bid in this project.”
SECI had initially issued a tender on May 25, 2018, for developing 10 GW of generation capacity. It had also mandated that winners of the bid should also set up 5 GW of manufacturing capacity.
Explaining the reason for the single bid, industry representatives said that the project does not seem viable with the tariff capped at ₹ 2.93 per unit. Developers also note that lenders found it difficult to finance a project having both generation and manufacturing in one SPV as manufacturing is perceived as a risk.
