Maruti Suzuki India today announced a recall of as many as 63,493 units of Ciaz, XL6 and Ertiga manufactured between 1st January 2019 to 21st November 2019 to fix an issue related to the MGU (Motor Generator Unit). All the recalled units are the SHVS (Smart Hybrid) petrol variants of the vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga share the 1.5-litre K15B Smart Hybrid petrol engine that delivers 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque. The motor is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox, with an option for 4-speed automatic transmission.
“The Company will inspect 63,493 vehicles of petrol SHVS of Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6 for a possible issue with the MGU. A possible defect may have occurred in the MGU during manufacturing by an overseas global part supplier,” Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing.
Under the recall campaign, Maruti Suzuki dealers will start contacting the owners of the suspected vehicles from today onwards. The vehicles without any defect will be released immediately. However, those requiring a replacement of the faulty part will be retained, with the issue being resolved free of cost.
According to Maruti Suzuki India, a customer can visit the official company website to check if his/her vehicle falls under the suspected vehicle category. He/she will have to fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen to check if the vehicle needs any attention.
