Mediclinic saves energy costs by using solar power
Solsquare Energy (Pty) Ltd, a Premium Partner of the German photovoltaic (PV) system service provider IBC SOLAR, has planned and installed aPV rooftop system for the South African private hospital group Mediclinic. The 88 kilowatt peak (kWp) self-consumption PV installation in Windhoek (Namibia) was grid-connected in December 2015 and covers a large part of the clinic’s energy need.
Mediclinic International is one of the three biggest clinic operators outside the United States and runs 54 clinics across Namibia and South Africa. The new flagship PV system is already the third to be installed for Mediclinic in this region, following a 149kWp solar plant in Oudtshoorn built in 2011 and an 88 kWp project commissioned in Kimberley (2015). “Although these systems are relatively small, they will certainly contribute to our carbon footprint”, said Wiid Brett, the Regional Technical Operational Manager of Mediclinic.
Despite the limited roof space, Solsquare was able to raise the energy yield by using high quality components from German suppliers: 338 IBC PolySol 260W modules from IBC SOLAR, 3 SMA Tripower 20.000 TL and 2 SMA Tripoweder 17.000 TL power inverters enable Mediclinic to reduce their energy costs on a long-time basis. The grid-connected PV system built for commercial self-consumption covers a large part of the clinic’s energy with solar power, saving 124.000 Rand (app. 8.000 EUR) per year. The clinic group is planning to implement further PV projects in the future.
Solsquare specialises in turn-key installed PV systems for the residential as well as commercial sector and offers energy audits. Since 2012, the company is a Premium Partner of IBC SOLAR in southern Africa and exclusive distribution partner in Namibia. IBC SOLAR is internationally represented, with subsidiaries and Premium Partners located in more than 30 international markets both within and outside of Europe. The Premium Partners are well established in their respective markets and are familiar with the cultural peculiarities, conventions and legal requirements. In return, IBC SOLAR not only guarantees a reliable supply of high-quality products and unique services, but also access to thirty years of know-how and experience from one of the leading PV industry pioneers.
IBC SOLAR will once again be showcasing its products at this year’s Intersolar Europe, Europe’s most important trade fair for solar technology. The company from Bad Staffelstein will be presenting its entire product range in hall A3, stand 290, from June 22 to 24. In addition to new products, the photovoltaic specialist will also inform on its current photovoltaics projects around the world along with its expertise and services for new PV business models.
