Meijer is partnering with EVgo to bring more electric-vehicle charging stations to its supercenters, beginning this summer.

The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer isn’t new to the EV charging space. Since 2010, it has been offering EV charging facilities at select stores and on its corporate campus.

“Enabling the adoption of electric vehicles is a vital part of decarbonizing passenger vehicle transportation, and Meijer can play a role in enabling that transition,” said Erik Petrovskis, Meijer director of environmental compliance and sustainability for Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer, in a release announcing the partnership with EVgo.

EVgo’s fast-charging stations for electric vehicles is powered by 100% renewable electricity. The Los Angeles-based company will manage the installation and ongoing operation and maintenance of the charging stations at the Meijer supercenters, which will add to the more than 800 fast-charging locations EVgo already owns and operates.

“Enabling drivers to fast charge while they shop is what EVgo does, and it makes it easy for Americans to make EVs a part of their everyday lifestyle,” said Cathy Zoi, CEO of Los Angeles-based EVgo, in a relase.

“An EVgo station attracts new and repeat customers looking to fast-charge their vehicles up to 80% in 15 to 30 minutes. This new partnership between EVgo and Meijer is a huge win for drivers and our two companies.”

Meijer customers will have access to EVgo charging stations capable of 100 kW to 350 kW fast charging. EVgo’s stations can power all fast-charge capable vehicles on the road today, including Teslas, pickup trucks and newly announced vehicles scheduled to come to market in the next year, the company said.
