Mines Rabat Solar Team Ready to Embark in Renowned Solar Car Races
The Illustrious student-led initiative Mines Rabat Solar Team presents its brand new ELEADORA2 solar powered vehicle.
Rabat : Seven years ago, an idea-based student-led initiative saw the light of day, becoming a leading model of student science innovation today.
MINES Rabat Solar team is a group of 16 Moroccan engineering students at the National School of Mineral Industry (ENSMR) who design and build cars powered by solar energy that compete at national and international races.
This is their third attempt to hand-build a solar vehicle, ELEADORA2 “Gift of the Sun” in Greek. In October 2021, the Solar Challenge Morocco will be held at Agadir and the team is looking forward to taking part in their next grand challenge as part of their grand plan.
Their nomination is the culmination of the exhausting effort, as only the best can compete.
The team has reached several milestones throughout their journey. They were previously ranked 2nd in the 2016 and 2019 competitions of the Moroccan Solar Challenge.
Imane Aoua, the head of communication of the team explained to Morocco World News that ELEADORA2 is the result of two years of perseverance and constant effort. This “high performance car” is better than any vehicle they have designed thus far.
Imane said there is always a need to push further forward in their preparation for upcoming races. Their latest project demonstrates their ingenuity and determination.
“We used inventive technologies; the complete shell is made of carbon fiber, we have also improved the batteries, the energy, and the telemetry system.
Other notable features are its outstanding engine, considerable autonomy, aerodynamic properties, and its durable electric mechanism”, described Imane with pride.
Such competitions push Moroccan students to develop their expertise in applied research. The aim behind Mines Rabat Solar team is to “promote sustainable energies among young people in addition to the spirit of entrepreneurship”.
The team is indeed doing a stellar job. At present, their vehicle is the only Moroccan project to have been officially recognized by Bridgeston, the world’s toughest and most prestigious solar car event.
“We are hoping for the standout ELEADORA 2 to cross the finish line of various competitions around the world such as the Solar Challenge Morocco , Rive Maroc and Sasol Solar Challenge”, said Imane with full confidence.
A member since December 2020, Imane considers herself to be fortunate to be part of this rewarding experience where “solidarity” and “team spirit” are the core values.
