Minister proposes solar ferries for Goa
PANJIM: Impressed by the solar passenger ferry boats in Kochi, Transport Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar has proposed the concept for Goa which would be in addition to the existing fleet of traditional ferry boats plying across 18 routes.
Dhavalikar, who along with Captain of Ports James Braganza and other officials from Goa inspected solar ferry boats operational in Kochi expressed his intentions to introduce these boats in Goa.
The government plans to introduce the boat on a trial basis from Savordem to Panjim via Shiroda, and Aldona to Panjim routes. “The commuters will be charged to utilise this service,” the minister said.
Speaking to Herald, Braganza said that the trial run was satisfactory.
“The solar boats have minimal sound and exhaust pollution. It has very good stability. However, cost and economic feasibility is being worked on,” he said.
