MNRE and FICCI organize Chintan Baithak on “Roadmap to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070”
Power and NRE Minister delivers keynote address
The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) jointly organized a Chintan Baithak on ” Roadmap to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070″ today to brainstorm on India’s renewable energy roadmap for achieving the goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2070. The Chintan Baithak was a part of MNRE’s ongoing celebrations of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Shri R.K. Singh, Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy delivered the keynote address and talked in details about India’s cross-sectoral net zero and energy transition plans, highlighting priorities, issues and the need for climate finance for facilitating the global energy transition.
The brainstorming session at the Baithak was chaired by Shri Indu Shekhar Chaturvedi, Secretary, MNRE. Shri Alok Kumar, Secretary, Power delivered the opening remarks and presentations were made by Chief Secretary, Rajasthan; Chief Secretary, Gujarat; Chairperson, Central Electricity Authority; Managing Director, Solar Energy Corporation of India; chair and co-chair of FICCI Renewable Energy Council.
Mr. Arun Chawla, Director General, FICCI welcomed the participants and set the context for the Baithak. Ms. Richa Sharma, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change briefed the participants on the evolution of the net zero agenda, India’s stand at various international forums, and potential pathways to attain Net-zero by 2070.
This was followed by open discussions wherein industry leaders shared a range of issues faced by the industry and suggestions thereon. Secretary, MNRE provided his insights on the issues raised by the industry leaders with respect to the policies and programs of the Government of India. He concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
