Indore: More and more citizens in Indore and other districts of Malwa-Nimar region have started opting for roof-top solar systems to reduce electricity consumption of their houses. The number of solar power plants installed on residential units or houses in the region continues to increase.
The total number of roof-top solar power plants and connections in Indore has gone up to 3700 with 340 new solar power plants being installed in the last three months, claimed Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited (MPPKVVCL) officials.
Of these 340 plants, 140 were installed in Indore between June and August this year, while 200 were installed in other 14 districts of Malwa and Nimar region, they said.
Discom’s managing director Amit Tomar said that the total number of roof-top solar power plants in Indore district has gone up to 3700.
“The total count of solar power plants installed in all 15 districts of the region has gone to 5850. Of these, Indore has a maximum number of roof-top solar power plants,” he claimed.
Tomar said that more and more power consumers have started opting to install solar power plants on their properties. “The government regulations are clear and the process for solar plants in residential areas has been simplified in the last few years to encourage citizens to opt for green energy solutions,” he pointed out. The roof-top solar plants work on the net-metering system, wherein electricity produced through the plant directly goes to the nearby grid station.
Produced electricity units are calculated and adjusted with the monthly consumption of electricity supplied by the discom to the respective consumer and they have to pay just for the energy consumed minus the energy transferred by them to the power grid, said officials.
