Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Lokesh ridiculed the argument of the Chief Minister that why did not the TDP government prefer thermal power though it was cheap.
VIJAYAWADA: A day after Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy levelled corruption charges against the previous TDP government on Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh said that the former was making an issue out of the old tariffs without mentioning the new prices of electricity.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Lokesh ridiculed the argument of the Chief Minister that why did not the TDP government prefer thermal power though it was cheap. It is unfortunate that Jagan is unaware that the entire world is heading towards cleaner energy and India set a target to achieve 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022.
Former CM and Jagan’s father YS Rajasekhara Reddy had caused loss to the tune of Rs 6,600 crore to Discoms by purchasing power at Rs 16 per unit before 2009, he alleged.
“To cover the losses caused to Discoms during the regime of your father, the TDP
government by making use of Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) in 2015,
took steps to heal losses to the tune of Rs 8,892 crore. You are propagating that the
TDP regime purchased electricity at a price of Rs 4.63 per unit in 2015-16 and
making an issue out of it without mentioning that the price came down to Rs 2.72
per unit in 2018-19,’’ he pointed out in a tweet.
On Jagan’s remarks of wasting public money by purchasing electricity at higher
prices, Lokesh asked him to explain how can Sandur Power owned by the former
sell power at Rs 4.50 per unit to HESCOM in Karnataka. Is it not public money
going into your pocket?” Lokesh questioned.
