Nasarawa State to Establish Biggest Solar Power Plant in Africa
The Nasarawa State Government has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Kuber Power Limited (KPL) on an Eligible Customer Basis which allows licensed generation company to access underserved customers and also promote the rapid expansion of generation capacity.
Monitored from Ta’al Circle, Nasarawa State has accepted KPL’s Proposal to be a 2.5% equity shareholder in the KPL’s $300 million 200mw solar power plant to be established on Shendam Road, Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The 200mw solar power generation plant will be the biggest solar power plant in Africa next to the Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park in UAE.
Funding of the project from inception to commissioning is the sole responsibility of KPL who is adequately financed through equity and debt and will be on site within 7 weeks after the signing of the PPA and is targeting the commissioning of the power plant at earliest record time. The project would involve the procurement of 400 hectares of land and millions of dollars worth of equipment.
In the PPA, Nasarawa State is only expected to only pay 1.5 million Naira to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The power plant would provide jobs for 1,500 workers during construction and 600 during operations. It will also provide focused Community Social Responsibility (CSR) programs of energy, water, sanitation and healthcare to communities towards reality social welfare and an improvement in Nasarawa State IGR.
Kuber Power Limited (KPL) is a Nigerian established entity with the sole purpose of the development, construction and operation of solar PV Hybrid, Combined Circle energy facility in Nigeria. KPL is made up of Kuber Power Africa (KPA) and Bowie Hertz and Company Limited (BHCL).
