NavAlt launches solar ferry in Kerala
NavAlt, the Kochi-based company that launched India’s first solar ferry for public transport in Kerala, has plans to approach various state governments to source more orders.
The successful launch of the 75 passenger capacity ferry Aditya in the State has facilitated the company to scout for orders and discussions are already on with governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Goa etc in this regard, SandithThandasherry, CEO, NavAlt Solar & Electric Boats said.
The newly introduced ferry for passenger movement will be the first commercially viable mode of transport powered by solar energy in the country and over the next year, the company will be developing more such ferries. It is expecting orders of 10 solar ferry boats from the Kerala Government alone for public transportation, he said.
He also urged the government to extend subsidy for the construction of such solar powered boats considering its eco-friendliness and non-polluting characters in water bodies.
