Experts discuss how to create the right environment to go electric.

There is a demand to increase the EV charging infrastructure, which is key to the growth of the EVs in the city. Attending a panel discussion on “Electric Vehicles and Ecosystem – Opportunities for Entrepreneurs” at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2021 recently, Arun Vinayak, (Co-Founder of Exponent Energy) said charging electric vehicles has become cumbersome.

He said charging points should be installed at all the parking lots in urban areas so that charging of vehicles becomes easier, just like the easy-availability of a fuel station.

It may be noted that recently BM did a story as to how many of the EV buyers were finding it tough to charge, especially at the apartments as there was a confusion as to who will foot the electricity bill. Many experts feel that without a proper infrastructure for EV charging, there may be hindrance to buying. However, experts stress that there is a need for the transport sector in the country to go green and become robust.

IT hub Bengaluru has the potential to become the future hub of electric vehicles in India with a market size of $100 billion in the country, said Mustafa Wajid, CEO of Meher Energy Ventures Pvt Ltd. He said India should grab this opportunity to embrace this technology.

Wajid said electric vehicles have become the natural choice of vehicle users. He said India is lacking in the hardware technology that is required to make electric vehicles, adding that the government should accord importance to solving this issue on the lines of the environment-friendly hydrogen policy announced by the Centre. He also said that hydrogen could be produced on the country’s east coast, using the technology for use in electric vehicles and then exported to south-east Asian countries.

Bhakta Keshavachar, founder/CEO of Chara Technologies said there are flaws in our system and there is a need to bring about reforms in the energy sector, lest we become dependent and continue to patronise Chinese-manufactured vehicles.

Meanwhile, Minister for Electronics, IT, BT, Higher Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Dr CN Ashwathnarayan has announced the setting up of a ‘Start-up Silicon Valley Bridge’ to help skilled employees of the state to work for start-ups located in the US’ Silicon Valley, which are facing human resource shortage. He also stated, ‘Beyond Bengaluru StartUp Grid’ will be set up to facilitate growth of emerging industries in other cities of the state.
