NHPC to develop green hydrogen project in Himachal Pradesh – EQ Mag Pro
Indian hydropower producer NHPC Ltd (BOM:533098) plans to produce green hydrogen in the state of Himachal Pradesh for the needs of the local mobility and transportation markets.
The Indian company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the District Administration Chamba for the pilot project, the state government announced on Friday.
Under the plan, the green hydrogen facility is set to be installed in the town of Chamba and will produce about 20 kg of hydrogen daily. The electrolysis process will be powered with electricity from a 300-kW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant that will be built in proximity. The hydrogen will be stored in a compressed form and will be used as transportation fuel.
NHPC said separately that production will be scaled up in the future to a commercial-scale level, with the green hydrogen to be used for heating purposes and in micro grid projects.
India has set a goal having 500 GW of power generation capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2070.
