
NLC India and Assam Power Distribution Join Forces for 1,000 MW Solar Project – EQ
In Short : NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) have signed a JV agreement to develop 1,000 MW of solar power in Assam. NLCIL will hold a 51% stake, while APDCL will own 49%. The ₹5,500 crore project aims to boost renewable energy infrastructure, create jobs, and supply electricity to Assam and beyond.
In Detail : NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL) and Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) have signed a joint venture (JV) agreement to develop a 1,000 MW solar power project in Assam. The JV will be established with a 51% equity shareholding by NIRL and 49% by APDCL. NIRL will leverage its expertise in renewable energy project development, while APDCL will facilitate land acquisition, regulatory approvals, and power evacuation infrastructure. Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) will be signed with Assam’s Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) to ensure the sale of 100% of the generated power for 25 years.
This initiative aims to address Assam’s growing energy demands by developing renewable energy projects, ensuring affordable and reliable power supply, and contributing to the state’s long-term energy security. The partnership aligns with the Government of India’s focus on increasing renewable energy penetration in the country’s energy mix to combat climate change and support sustainable development.

By leveraging the synergies between NIRL and APDCL, we aim to build robust infrastructure for renewable energy generation and distribution. The establishment of this JV marks a significant step toward enhancing Assam’s renewable energy capacity and contributing to India’s broader climate goals.
