‘NRE solution to energy problem’

Kohima: New and Renewable Energy (NRE) has the highest potential to address the growing energy problem.

This view was shared by Mmhonlumo Kikon, Advisor for NRE, IT&C, Science & Technology, during a felicitation programme held for the newly appointed advisor by the Department of New and Renewable Energy (NRE) on April 12.

According to a DIPR report, Kikon held that NRE will impact thousands of life in the State and as such, assured to lead the department to all round progress. He also assured the department to intervene in the framing of NRE policies since it is the top priority of the department and the state as well.

In terms of NRE projects, the new advisor voiced confidence that the unfinished projects will be completed soon and if necessary, expertise from outside the state will be brought in. He also expressed hope that the new NRE office will be completed shortly and in this regard, urged the officers and staff to be prepared to work. He also requested the department to take initiatives and highlight success stories and achievements of the department.

Director NRE, Er. Kavito Chishi while welcoming Kikon voiced expectations that the new advisor will lead and guide the department in every way possible, the DIPR report stated.

While informing that a number of projects have been completed and are now functional, Chishi also expressed regret that some projects have been temporarily halted due to the funding process. As such, he requested the advisor to intervene so that the pending projects can be implemented at the right time.

Additional Director NRE, Er. Kimaba presented a slide show highlighting the development and achievements of the department.

He emphasized on the organizational set up of the department and deliberated on issues like shortage of workforce for operation and maintenance, post creations, framing of new service rule etc. which were creating a hindrance in the departmental progress.

Slides on Solar, Hydel and Wind projects, Biogas, Biomass were also exhibited and chalking out of further plans was noted, the DIPR report added.
