The New South Wales state government has awarded 750 MW of wind and solar, as well as 524 MW of long-duration energy storage projects in the third tender under the Aussie state’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.

The winning projects announced by the state government on Tuesday represent AUD 4.2 billion (USD 2.82bn/EUR 2.58bn) in private sector investment.

AEMO Services, which runs the tenders as the NSW Consumer Trustee, has selected one solar, one wind and two lithium-ion battery proposals, as well as an advanced-compressed air energy storage system project. All of them will sign long-term energy service agreements (LTESAs), which provide insurance against future price risk.

All five projects should be commissioned in 2028. More details about each of them are available in the table. Silver City Energy Storage

The NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap seeks to back the private sector to install at least 12 GW of new renewable electricity generation and 2 GW of long-duration storage. Including the capacity from the third round, 5.79 GW of generation and 574 MW of long-duration storage capacity have been secured.

The third tender, launched in May, was met with strong interest, receiving bids for renewable generation capacity totalling 3.1 GW, against an indicative target of 950 MW, and 1.6 GW of bids for long-duration storage, compared to a target of up to 550 MW.

“The Roadmap tenders are accelerating the transition to renewables, ensuring households and businesses have reliable access to clean and affordable electricity into the future, while providing jobs and other benefits in regional communities,” said Minister for Climate Change and Energy Penny Sharpe.
