In Short : The NTPC Group has achieved a significant milestone, surpassing 76 GW in installed power capacity. This accomplishment underscores their leadership in the energy sector and commitment to meeting India’s growing electricity demand through sustainable power generation.

In Detail : State-run power utility NTPC recently commissioned a 57-megawatt (MW) capacity at Anta solar PV project in Rajasthan, boosting the group’s overall power generation capability past the 76 GW milestone.

“Consequent upon successful commissioning and due approvals, first part capacity of 57 MW out of 90 MW Anta Solar PV Project at Anta, Rajasthan, is declared on commercial operation with effect from 00:00 hours of April 26, 2024,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

With this, the total installed and commercial capacity of NTPC on a standalone and group basis has reached 59,135 MW and 76,015 MW respectively.

In FY24, NTPC successfully added 3,924 MW of new capacity to its portfolio, bringing its cumulative installed capacity to nearly 76 GW. Presently, the group has an operational RE capacity of 3.5 GW, with an extensive pipeline exceeding 20 GW.

Looking ahead, NTPC aims to derive approximately 45-50 per cent of its capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2032, including a target of 60 GW from RE sources, thereby reaching a total portfolio of 130 GW.

To expedite its energy transition, NTPC has established two wholly-owned subsidiaries, NTPC Green Energy Limited and NTPC Renewable Energy Limited on 7 April 2022, and 7 December 2020, respectively.

Further, it has won 3,445 MW of renewable energy (RE) projects in the fiscal year ending 31 March 2024.

“NTPC wins 3,445 MW RE bids in FY 2023-24. This records 58 per cent of total RE tenders the company participated during the financial year which is the highest since it started participating in the bids,” the company said.
