In Short : NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation), an Indian state-owned power company, is establishing a solar PV (photovoltaic) and LNG (liquefied natural gas) based power project in Sri Lanka. This venture signifies NTPC’s involvement in expanding renewable energy infrastructure internationally, contributing to Sri Lanka’s energy diversification and sustainability goals.

In Detail : Trincomalee Power Company Limited (TPCL)- A 50:50 Joint venture between NTPC Ltd. and Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), was incorporated in Sri Lanka for development of Power Project. Government of Sri Lanka issued Letter of Intent (LoI) to NTPC for setting up 500 MW LNG power plant at Kerawalapitiya and 50 MW solar power project at Sampur. Various activities such as land clearance, project agreement finalization etc. are under progress for implementation of these projects.
