Odisha Invites Proposals for 20 MW Decentralized Solar Projects to Empower Farmers under KUSUM – EQ
In Short : The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) has floated an Expression of Interest (EoI) for setting up 20 MW solar projects under the KUSUM Scheme. The initiative aims to promote decentralized solar energy, benefiting farmers with reliable power for irrigation. Selected developers will establish plants on barren or agricultural land, supporting renewable energy and rural empowerment in Odisha.
In Detail : The Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) for setting up 20 MW of solar power projects under the KUSUM Scheme. This initiative is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to promote renewable energy and enhance farmers’ access to clean and reliable power for agricultural purposes.
The solar projects will be developed under Component-A of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme. This component focuses on setting up decentralized, grid-connected solar power plants with individual project capacities ranging from 500 kW to 2 MW.
The projects can be installed on barren, fallow, pasture, or agricultural land. The land can either be owned by farmers or leased out for project development. This approach aims to utilize underutilized land resources while generating a steady income for farmers through land leasing or power sales.
OREDA has specified that the generated solar power will be procured by distribution companies (DISCOMs) at a pre-fixed levelized tariff. This assures developers of a long-term revenue stream and encourages investment in renewable energy infrastructure within the state.
The scheme also seeks to reduce the dependence of farmers on conventional power sources for irrigation. By integrating solar power into agriculture, the project will help mitigate carbon emissions and contribute to Odisha’s renewable energy targets.
Interested developers are required to submit their EoI by the specified deadline. OREDA aims to select eligible participants through a transparent process, ensuring efficient implementation of the solar projects and maximizing the benefits for farmers and the state’s energy sector.
