Orix installs solar-plus-storage systems on Valor sites in Japan
The dedicated renewables business of Japanese financial services group Orix Corp has installed solar arrays with energy storage components at two stores in Japan owned by local chain Valor Holdings Co Ltd.
The two solar plants have a combined capacity of 532 MW and each has a 159-kWh lithium-ion battery system. They were installed at Supermarket Valor Takefu Store (295.7 kW) in Echizen, Fukui, and at Supermarket Valor Yuinosato Store in Kanazawa, Ishikawa.
While Orix was responsible for the installation and operation, Hokuriku Electric Power Co was in charge of brokering the service.
Furthermore, the utility will deliver any additional electricity needed by the stores when the solar arrays are unable to. The plants are now operating under power purchase agreements (PPAs).
As of March 31, 2019, Valor has installed solar modules on top of 135 sites, including supermarkets and drugstores.
