A convention of the South’s green economy community by the organisers of Renewable Energy India Expo (REI India)
Hyderabad: UBM India, the leading B2B exhibitions organiser announced the third edition of RenewX, a two-day Renewable Energy trade expo slated on April 13 and 14 2018 at the Hitex, Hyderabad. Augmented further by the legacy of its flagship Renewable Energy India Expo (REI India), UBM India through RenewX 2018, will provide an industry platform for organizations to capitalize and penetrate into the lucrative south Indian renewable energy market. The expo will witness a congregation of South India’s green economy community to discuss industry trends, challenges and market insights including the Indian regulatory framework.

Bringing together manufacturers, EPCs, distributors and service providers, RenewX 2018 has over 150 participating exhibitors endeavouring to make a difference in the renewable energy domain. Speaking on the announcement, Mr. Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India said, “According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), India will be the fastest growing energy consumer and market by 2040. Accordingly, it has has positioned itself distinctively with its target of achieving enough renewable energy projects over the next three years to surpass 200 GW of green capacity. The target has created awareness about renewable energy in the country and will offer massive investment opportunities across the value chain. Telangana, since its establishment has been playing an active role in aggressively supporting solar energy. Along with other states in South India such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are also promoting renewable energy , the region holds promise for the sector with its profitable and favourable government and industrial policies. After two successful editions, we are all set for the third one in Hyderabad that aims to accelerate the growth of Renewable Energy Industry in South India and contribute to the country’s sustainable economic development.”
Key highlights:
RenewX 2018 includes the “Green Job Fair” for graduating students, working professionals, and new entrepreneurs who want to explore opportunities in the clean energy sector. Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) is seen to have enormous potential to address energy access gaps in India, but the sector’s growth has been constrained by numerous factors, including the lack of skilled manpower for critical functions. To date, the approach to address this shortfall has been to devise training programme in DRE. According to the SCGJ (Skill Council for Green Jobs), Government of India ‘Skill gap report for Solar, Wind, Small Hydro sector’, it is estimated that over 6,70,000 number skilled manpower will be required in the Solar PV sector alone. Taking note of the situation, UBM India in association with SCGJ is organising the Green Job Fair to provide opportunities to candidates to work with the leading names in the Renewable energy sector across a plethora of job roles.
A two-day dedicated conference on ‘Sourcing the Sun’ that will talk about successful practices on integrating Renewables into business, and to find the best working models and practices that can lead to increased efficiency while optimising cost in the rooftop segment covering various aspects of the entire value chain.

· CEO Dialogue: Enroute to 2022
– This session aims to bring together CEOs from the entire solar energy value chain to deliberate on the ambitious solar energy targets set forth by the Government of India. The session will delve into what each stakeholder can contribute to ensure the convergence on solar energy with the new MNRE solar rooftop policy in place and the upcoming opportunities in this rapidly emerging field.
· Panel Discussion – PV Manufacturing: A Southern Perspective
– PV manufacturing in the country seems to be the flavour of the season with the government planning of safeguard duty along with the setting aside Rs 11000 crore in order to support and incentivise domestic manufacturing in the country. The session aims to bring together various stakeholders involved in the PV Manufacturing value chain and the future challenges that await us as India enters into the a new era of manufacturing as it eyes to become the largest PV manufacturer in the world.
· Mitigation of Financial Risks in a PV Investment
– The Business of Solar is no exception to risks and being a capital intensive business, investors always remain prone to financial risks and concerns over debt recovery. This session aims to delve deep into the mind of a prospective investor or debt financer and bring forward their viewpoint while they delve into a solar project and the challenges they face while evaluating and funding prospective projects.
· Technical Presentation/ Case Study on Floatovoltaics from Adtech systems, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala
· Powering the Roofs
– The rooftop segment in India has not been able to pick up pace as only about 2 GW of solar PV capacity has been deployed till date in spite of an active push by the MNRE and every state supporting the initiative by rolling out solar policies. This candid session will discuss salient changes in the MNRE’s solar rooftop policy and the alterations in value chain that are expected to ensue in the process so as to make the road to rooftops easier for a cleaner and energy secure India.
· Renewable Energy Asset Management
– Renewable Energy Asset Management is slowly getting its due as it not only helps to maximize energy generation but also helps lower operational costs by avoiding any expensive failures. This session aims to drive discussions on the market potential and best practices in Renewable Energy Asset Management in order to maximise the plant output and subsequently the revenue from the PV and wind power plants.
· The Circular Economy: Challenges and Opportunities
– Without a clear vision and business case, the progress towards waste and renewable energy circularity is likely to suffer. We ask committed professionals to talk about their circular economy ambitions, the strategies they have to achieve, and why a circular economy for waste, Renewable energy and Sustainable Bio-energy is more desirable then the status quo.
· Waste to Energy: Convergence of Technology, Incentives, Challenges & State Policy

The expo will also see a full day training workshop on ‘Best Practices in Design and Implementation of Solar Power Plants With an Overview of Techniques in Energy Yield Estimation / Forecasting’. This workshop will be conducted by Iacharya Silicon Limited in Partnership with Solar Radiation Resource Assessment & Advance Measurement Station (SRRA), a unit under NIWE which is an autonomous unit under Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
India is taking a number of green initiatives and switching to renewable energy for its upcoming major projects. Trade ports, railway stations, and zoos are smartly and creatively being developed to minimise carbon emissions, making the country a fast growing green energy consumer. The country is also receiving aid from its international associates such as France and World Bank who are helping it achieve its ambitions. The country’s solar installed capacity reached 20 GW in February 2018, 8 times from 2,650 MW on 26 May 2014. The 20 GW capacity was initially targeted for 2022 but the government achieved the target four years ahead of schedule . On a pan Indian scale, while Telangana has the highest installed solar energy capacity, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan follow closely along with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat.
