Beijing China: The world’s leading eco-development solutions provider, Panda Green Energy Group Limited (00686.HK, “Panda Green Energy”, formerly known as “United PV”) was invited to attend the workshop on “Low-Carbon Development and Financing Solutions through South-South Cooperation” on 28 August 2017, organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Beijing. Government officials from National Energy Administration(NEA), Ministry of Science and Technology, and China Development Bank attended the Workshop, as well as over 70 foreign government officials and representatives from 25 countries along the “Belt and Road” including Pakistan, Malaysia, Tajikistan, Kenya.

This event is an important part of the efforts of the UNDP and Panda Green Energy in response to China’s South-South Cooperation and “Belt and Road” initiative. It seeks to provide a platform for dialogue and discussion on how China’s low-carbon solutions and development financing may benefit developing countries, including providing concrete examples to countries and institutions of new innovative models for development financing.

As for China’s achievements and experience in implementing low-carbon and sustainable development, the State Council Counselor, former General Director of NEA, Mr. Xu Dingming said in the speech: “China is the world’s largest renewable energy investing, manufacturing and consuming country. We will strive to put forward the energy revolution, and take the road of green development with ‘Belt and Road’ related countries, to build our clean and beautiful world. Renewable energy is a name card of China, and Panda Power Plant is a new star that leads China’s clean energy going global.”

As a leader in China’s clean energy field, Panda Green Energy applies Panda Power Plant as a carrier and uses clean energy to promote global ecological sustainable development. In this regard, CEO of Panda Green Energy, Mr. Alan Li said: “It is a long-term vision and goal for Panda Green Energy to bring clean energy to the world. In the future, Panda Green Energy will continue to carry on the social mission and responsibility, provide local green energy integrated solutions to ‘Belt and Road’ related developing countries by applying Panda Power Plant’s advanced technology and innovative pattern, so that the panda’s smile can be seen everywhere in the world.”

Panda Green Energy CFO Mr. Li Hong was also invited to attend the event as well as the “Financing Solutions for Sustainable Development” panel discussion. Dr. Li Jiewei, General Manager of Overseas Business Department, presented the speech entitled “Responsibilities and Solutions for Enterprises in Promoting Sustainable Development”, introducing Panda Green Energy’s innovative patterns and practice in promoting ecological sustainable development and providing a package of energy solutions for “Belt and Road” areas.

As the largest developing country in the world, China has always been a promoter and builder of South-South Cooperation, and also an active advocate for realizing the global ecological sustainable development. “Belt and Road” areas are mainly developing countries where the economic development is retarded, the ecological environment is fragile, the infrastructure construction is lacking, the population density is high, the ecological carrying capacity is insufficient. Hence, “Belt and Road” initiative aims to share economic development achievements with those related countries, and to make a common and sustainable future come true and be what it is.

Mr. Nicholas Rosellini, the Resident Coordinator and the Resident Representative of UNDP China, spoke highly of China’s contribution in supporting developing countries. He said: “As an important economic partner of developing countries, China has provided financial support, as well as technical assistance in related fields, which is of great help to the developing countries. In addition, China is supporting other developing countries with its own experience in renewable energy and low-carbon development to realize sustainable development and jointly deal with future climate challenges. “

As a firm supporter and advocator of the national “Belt and Road” Initiative, in September 2016, Panda Green Energy and the UNDP reached a strategic cooperation agreement, to build Panda Power Plants along “Belt and Road” countries and areas, and bring in the integrated multi-energy solutions. At the same time, Panda Power Plant has been officially listed in the Action Plan on Jointly Promoting “Belt and Road” Construction, signed by the United Nations and Chinese government at the “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on 14 May 2017. In the forum, the Philippines, Fiji and other countries leaders were all hoping that Panda Power Plant project is landing soon, to jointly deal with climate change.

Datong Panda Power Plant was officially put into operation on August 10, 2017. It is also the green energy demonstration project jointly promoted by Panda Green Energy and UNDP, to promote the United Nations sustainable development goals for clean energy. According to the plan, Datong Panda Power Plant has a total installed capacity of 100MW, and the first-round plant is completed with an installed capacity of 50MW, It is designed as a pair of young panda babies, and the second-round plant will be built as an adult panda couple, which together form as a happy panda family.

In the future, with the Datong Panda Power Plant as a starting point, Panda Green Energy will continue to build good strategic partnerships with along “Belt and Road” developing countries. It will promote the concept of clean energy and green development around the world through Panda Power Plants, influence the developing countries to improve their construction capacity to deal with climate change, provide more impetus for the South-South Cooperation and the “Belt and Road” initiative, and eventually realize the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.
