Philippines’ AboitizPower Plans 74-MW Solar Power Plant
Philippine power company Aboitiz Power Corp (PSE:AP) plans to build a 74-MW solar power plant in Pangasinan province on Luzon island.
The company said last week that the project has received board approval and is currently in the development stage. It hopes to begin construction in the second half of 2021, with commercial operation targeted by the fourth quarter of 2022. Most of the solar plant’s capacity will be contracted for retail electricity supply, according to the announcement.
This will be AboitizPower’s second solar power plant after its 59-MWp solar park completed in 2016 in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
AboitizPower president and chief executive Emmanuel Rubio said the new project is another step towards achieving the company’s 10-year strategy of significantly increasing its renewable energy capacity and reaching a 50:50 balance between its clean energy and thermal portfolios. AboitizPower noted it continues to invest in other renewable energy projects, including geothermal, large hydro and wind across the country.
The 74-MW solar plant will be located in Cayanga in the town of Bugallon. According to the news release, the office of Pangasinan governor Amado Espino III has expressed full support for the proposed project.
