Port of San Diego adds 14 electric vehicles to fleet – EQ Mag Pro
The Port of San Diego is to purchase a total of 14 electric vehicles from the National Auto Fleet Group.
The transaction was recently approved by the Board of Port Commissioners and supports the port’s Maritime Clean Strategy (MCAS) and its vision of Healthy Equity for All.
The purchase is being funded through the Port of San Diego’s Economic Recovery Program which was established to designate and track federal stimulus funds via the American Rescue Plan Act and the State of California’s Coronavirus Fiscal Recovery Fund.
“The Port of San Diego is putting the MCAS goals set forth by the community and other stakeholders into action. Not only is our approach to improving air quality among the most aggressive in the country, but we have also outlined how we will deliver,” said Chairman Dan Malcolm, Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners.
“The purchase of these electric vehicles shows we take the health of those who live, work, and play on and near the waterfront seriously. We will continue to work to preserve the bountiful resources San Diego Bay offers so future generations can enjoy its benefits.”
The latest additions to San Diego’s fleet include ten medium-duty pickup trucks and four vans that will replace gas- or diesel-powered vehicles and contribute to the port’s conversion to a zero-emissions fleet.
Delivery is scheduled to be completed by spring 2023.
In addition, the port has also placed an order for two Lordstown electric pickup trucks from National Auto. These are expected to be delivered by late summer or early fall of 2022.
In July 2021, Crowley Maritime Corporation announced it was to build and operate the first all-electric powered harbour tugboat at San Diego Bay.
The eTug is set to operate at the Port of San Diego’s Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal and will be operational by mid-2023.
