NEW DELHI: The cross-subsidy on power should be restricted so that consumers are not burdened, according to Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and Renewable Energy, R K Singh.
Speaking at the Conference of Power and New & Renewable Energy Ministers of States and Union Territories, Singh said, “Cross-subsidisation should be restricted to 20 per cent. Consumers should not be burdened due to inefficiencies of the power distribution companies.”
Singh said inefficiency in billing and non-metering were adversely affecting the power sector. He said there is a need to modernise the metering system in India to cut power losses.
