In Short : Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has acquired two transmission projects through competitive bidding. These acquisitions are part of Power Grid’s strategy to expand its transmission network and enhance India’s electricity infrastructure. The projects will help in strengthening the national grid, improving the reliability of power supply, and supporting the country’s growing energy demands.

In Detail : New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a Maharatna PSU under Ministry of Power, has acquired two Project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) viz. Rajasthan IV C Power Transmission Limited and Rajasthan IV E Power Transmission Limited on August 19 for the Transmission System Projects for evacuation of power from Rajasthan REZ Phase IV (Part 2: 5.5 GW) (Jaisalmer/ Barmer Complex): Part C and Part E respectively after competing with various private sector players and emerging as successful bidder in Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.

Rajasthan IV C Power Transmission Limited shall implement a Transmission System comprising establishment of new 765/400/220 kV Pooling Sub-station at Mandsaur, 765kV D/C Transmission Line and associated bays extension works at other existing sub-station in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and is to be commissioned in 24 months.

Rajasthan IV E Power Transmission Limited shall implement a Transmission System comprising establishment of new 765 kV sub-station at Rishabhdeo in the state of Rajasthan, 765kV D/C Transmission Lines and associated bays extension works at other existing sub-station in the states of Rajasthan & Madhya Pradesh. The transmission system is an Inter State Transmission System Project and is to be commissioned in 24 months.

Both the above projects are a part of the transmission scheme that shall facilitate evacuation of 5.5 GW renewable energy from Jaisalmer/Barmer Complex (Fatehgarh-IV: 4 GW, Barmer-I: 1.5 GW) towards the load centers. Further, the SPV “Rajasthan IV C Power Transmission Limited” shall also cater to evacuation of power from Neemuch/Mandsaur 2GW WEZ.

Power Grid, through its various Projects SPVs which have been acquired through tariff bidding route, is implementing various Transmission System Projects being constructed on build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. These Projects will augment the Indian transmission infrastructure to evacuate Green Energy to the National Grid thereby reducing dependency on fossil fuels, in line with Government of India’s vision of achieving 500 GW renewable energy target by year 2030.

As on July 31, Power Grid has commissioned and is operating 278 Sub-stations and more than 1,77,790 ckm transmission lines and 532,446 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, Power Grid has been able to maintain average transmission system availability more than 99.8 percent.
