Power Utility Transformation: African Development Bank to co-organize 2018 CEO Governance and Leadership Forum on smart grids in the power sector
Improving Governance and Leadership in Africa’s power sector is an imperative for addressing various bottlenecks impeding the performance of power utilities in the continent. In the framework of the African Network of Centers of Excellence in Electricity (ANCEE), co-funded by the African Development Bank and the Agence Française pour le Développement (AFD), the Bank in collaboration with the Association of Power Utilities of Africa (APUA), annually co-organises the African Power Utilities CEO Governance and Leadership Forum.
The Forum promotes South-South cooperation among utilities, knowledge exchange and networking with the objective to disseminate among decision-makers of the power utilities, best practices and experiences to improve the performance of their companies. Likewise, it stimulates leaders to embrace good governance and quality approach in management in order to ensure financial viability of the utilities.
The 2018 CEO Governance and Leadership Forum will take place in Cairo, Egypt, 9-10 July 2018, on the theme: “Deployment of Smart Grids, Opportunities, Challenges and Strategic Option’s” Issues related to the impact of reforms, information systems, and smart solutions for performance improvement will be discussed.
One hundred and twenty participants, including CEOs of Power utilities, the African Development Bank, the AFD, Executive Committee Board members of APUA, selected Industry and private sector actors are expected.
In the framework of its Sustainable Utility Transformation agenda, the Bank aims at providing tailored technical assistance, advisory services, funding and guarantees in order to turn-around the utilities toward creditworthiness and sector bankability as the performance of power utilities in Africa is pivotal to attract large investments required to sustain current economic growth trajectory on the continent.
