Powerday to reduce carbon emissions by 4% by end of year
London-based waste management and recycling company, Powerday, has announced it aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 4% by the end of this year, in alignment with its net-zero commitment for 2040.
Additionally, in its 2024 manifesto, published this week, Powerday has pledged to establish a Scope 3 target by the same deadline.
To achieve these goals, Powerday has said it is implementing several initiatives, including transitioning seven of its sites to renewable energy and investing in battery storage technology at its Willesden site.
According to the manifesto, the company is also expanding its Electric Skip vehicle fleet and investing in trials and fleet expansion for vehicles running on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
Social impact
Powerday, in the manifesto, has said that it aims to achieve 30% representation of women in management roles, up from 11% in 2023. The company also stated it had plans to support 300 young Londoners through education, sport and employment opportunities.
According to the manifesto, the company wants to achieve an average score of 90% in its annual client surveys for health and safety.
Ed Crossan, chief executive officer, said: “Powerday is committed to leading by example in sustainability and social responsibility across our five key pillars. Whilst carbon management remains a top priority for Powerday, our updated manifesto not only reflects the business’ ongoing dedication to reducing our environmental footprint, but also the investment in our employees’ wellbeing and development, surrounding communities and delivering value to each one of our clients.”
