In Detail : Rajasthan is aiming to become an energy-surplus state by the end of the financial year 2025-26, with a strong focus on expanding solar power generation. The state government has set a target of generating 30 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy as part of its commitment to renewable energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Minister of State for Energy, Heeralal Nagar, emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring and development in the energy sector to achieve self-sufficiency. He noted that efforts are being made to modernize infrastructure and boost efficiency, particularly through initiatives like the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Large-scale solar projects form the backbone of Rajasthan’s strategy. The Bhadla Solar Park, with its 2,245 MW capacity, stands as one of the largest solar parks in the world. The state is also pushing for rooftop solar installations and encouraging private investment to scale up renewable energy production.
To further support these developments, the Rajasthan government has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹6.57 lakh crore. These agreements are expected not only to meet the state’s growing energy demands but also to enable it to supply power to other Indian states and neighboring countries.
The increasing electricity demand, especially during hotter months, poses a challenge. To address this, Rajasthan is investing in energy storage systems and modernizing its power grid to ensure a reliable and stable supply, even during peak usage periods driven by extreme temperatures.
