RECOM, the EU based manufacturer of crystalline photovoltaic solar modules together with U.S. developing company, BQ Energy, successfully completed the installation of 4.07 MW solar in Olean, New York State. The project is in 75% ownership of RECOM and 25% of BQ Energy. Both companies cooperated closely on the installation, that is covered by a 25 years Power Purchase Agreement with the City of Olean. The project is one among four large solar installations with a total capacity of 28 MW RECOM is completing in NY State.
The installation comprises of 11,808 RECOM monocrystalline solar modules, 345 Wp each. The PV project is built on a brownfield site, historically part of a petroleum tank farm and refinery that was operated from the late 1800s until the 1950s by the predecessors of ExxonMobil. The installation will bring the area one step closer to a greener future, powered by solar energy and it will power 400 households at lower electricity cost.
“This solar installation is very symbolic in a sense that it is built on remnants of a petroleum ground reflecting today’s efforts to transit from fossil to renewables,” says RECOM CEO Hamlet Tunyan. “We are glad to be part of this project which is one among many that RECOM is realizing in the State of New York.”
